After purchasing the only undeveloped lot at Goose Haven, a lake-front property with unobstructed panoramic views of the Front Range mountains, the owners retained Tierra Concept of Santa Fe to help design an extremely-efficient, solar-powered, kid-friendly, two-story, southwest contemporary home.
Their primary focus for lot design and building orientation was to take full advantage of the views over the lake and to the mountains, to orient the photovoltaic system to the south, to achieve passive solar heating and cooling, site xeriscaping, drip irrigation, and on-site storm water management.
Kid-friendly features include the lake, sandy beach and floating dock for swimming, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding, an in-ground trampoline, an outdoor spa, and an outdoor concrete ping pong table. Inside the kids have a climbing wall and fire pole for quick access between their bedroom and the main level, plus a third-level play loft.
This 5000 s.f. home was completed in 2013 with four bedrooms, six baths, two offices and many exterior curves and asymmetrical walls. Acting as their own general contractor, the owners consulted with numerous energy efficiency professionals and retained contractor consultant HomeWrights to assist with budgeting, sub-contractor selection and construction advice.
