Boulder ZED 4 House

This 2015 Boulder Zed house is a complete remodel and 2nd floor addition project that results in a near Net Zero Energy Home. Boulder ZED Design Build balanced the costs and benefits of utilizing high performance construction methods to create a new, contemporary, energy efficient home.

The majority of the original 1,100 s.f. home’s shell was kept and an additional 1,400 s.f. addition was added via a second floor and slightly larger footprint. The refined floor plan includes two bedrooms and master suite on the same level, an office/bedroom, great room and a family room downstairs.

The all electric home remains healthy and comfortable through a 95% efficient ERV and a simplified forced air system supplied by a ground source heat pump and a 8.25 kw Solar PV system. The complete, original envelop was revamped adding triple pane tilt/turn windows, hybrid insulation assemblies and passive solar design features. Priorities of the envelop construction included air tightness, reduced thermal bridging and substantial insulation.
